Reaching Hearts in Canada . . . One Knock at a Time
.
Jason Williams, Bible worker involved in the Global Mission Grand Falls-Windsor Project in Newfoundland and Labrador

I HAD KNOCKED on nearly every door in one section of the Grand Falls-Windsor community, on the Canadian island of Newfoundland, and was getting ready to move on to another area when one of the families with whom I was visiting suggested that I stop at the home of a couple who lived down the road. I had already knocked on that couple's door but no one had been home. The family encouraged me to make contact if I had the time.

A week later I returned to the couple's home. This time Ruth* answered and invited me in. As we spoke, she expressed an interest in spiritual things and we arranged a time for me to visit the following week.

When I arrived at the house the next week, Ruth introduced me to her husband, William*. A man in his mid-70s, it was evident that William had faced his share of trials in life. Diabetes had left him with failing eyesight, kidney trouble, and an amputated leg. He never attended school as a boy and couldn't read or write.
But while William's circumstances were anything but ideal, I was amazed by his faith. He constantly emphasized his trust in Jesus and that without Christ he was nothing.

William had come to the Lord at the age of 70 but because of his leg amputation, he had been unable to attend church. He asked me to pray with him and teach him things from the Bible that he couldn't read for himself.

In these past few months, I've met weekly with Ruth and William. They listen carefully to the studies that I share from the Word of God and seem eager to have the fellowship of a Christian friend. William loves to pray.

William and Ruth have joined me at the local Seventh-day Adventist church a few times. Their visits are a highlight to my week as a Bible instructor, and I am grateful to God for the ways He leads us to people who are seeking a closer relationship with Him.

I wonder what might have happened if I had ignored the encouragement to visit a home that I had already passed by. Praise God I didn't!
