This is a timely outreach, especially during the early summer. As difficult as the economy is for many, unemployment rates in some areas are low enough for many employers to aggressively recruit workers. Job fairs connect an important need with a growing demand. Many churches have members who have lost jobs because of their religious convictions. Job fairs can supply these committed Christians with new opportunities.
Do a thorough evaluation of the personnel needs of local businesses. You will be asking every interested business to set up a booth or send a representative, but you especially want employers with job openings. Once you have recruited businesses and potential employers, establish a time and place that is convenient for the fair. The fellowship hall or an appropriate space at your local church may work. However, if your space is insufficient choose a good spot: local community centers, apartment club houses and gymnasiums work well.
Once the date and location are determined the promotion begins.
Advertise widely. Get the word out through every available outlet. If possible get information to the unemployment office. Most of the businesses will be accustomed to job fairs and will come prepared to set up in the space provided. Recruit volunteers to provide help for those who may need it.
