Parenting Seminars
.
Most parents are eager to receive instructions on child rearing. In fact, parenting assistance is one of the most frequently mentioned felt-needs when neighborhood surveys are conducted. Couples are looking for classes and workshops that will be attended by other couples who are wrestling with similar issues.

Choose a day and time that will not only be convenient for the couples but will allow the church to provide childcare, if possible. Begin with couples in the church. Encourage each of them who have kids to come and bring their friends. Be sure to announce the age range that will be covered in the seminar. Some parents need help with their teens; others need help with toddlers. It’s good if you are able to have general sessions then break into small groups that target particular children’s age groups.

The material and the presenter are important. The Family Life department of your church, if there is one, should take the lead.  If there is a children’s ministry leader at the church that person should also be involved. The local conference may provide helpful instructions and suggestions. If your church is small or if it’s difficult to find a capable instructor you can use one of a number of popular video parenting seminars. These video seminars will not only accommodate large gatherings of couples but also small groups. The flexibility is great. As always, seminars can rise or fall on promotion and scheduling, so be aggressive and creative.
